CompTIA announce Official dates for A+ 2009 Edition

In March, CompTIA released the draft of their 2009 A+ certification requirements but we weren’t quite sure when the new exams would go live. In their June newsletter, they announced dates for the new exam and the phase-out plan for the existing CompTIA A+ exam..

The new CompTIA A+ Essentials (220-701) and CompTIA A+ Practical Application (220-702) exams will arrive in August of 2009. You’ll notice that the exam requirements have been simplified into two exams instead of the four exams in the previous 220-60x version. To become CompTIA A+ certified, you must pass both the 220-701 and 220-702 exams.

If you’re currently studying for the 220-60x exams, you’ve still got until July 31, 2010 to take those exams. You’ve now got a year to decide if you want to take the older A+ exam or transition to the new exam requirements.

It’s nice that we have a year to make the switch as it takes time for books, videos, and other training materials to be produced. As of this writing in June, the posted 220-70x CompTIA A+ requirements are still in draft form. We’re planning a video training series around the 220-701/702 certification requirements, so we’re really excited about seeing the final version of the requirements.

Good luck with your studies!
